Jazz Piano Skills 101

Day 4 - I-IV and Tritone Substitutions

Welcome to Day 4 of Jazz Piano Skills 101!

Ok, so you’ve got your minor, dominant, and major 7 voicings down, but we still have to cover the remaining progressions in, “Winter Trees” before we bring it all together.

Just like we did before, we give you 2 voicing options for the I-IV and tritone substitution progressions. If you take your time and practice with focus, it's possible to learn these voicings in under an hour.

As a reminder, make sure to keep your awareness open and use your ears at all times. We can sometimes get so caught up in the physical nature of playing, that we lose track of listening to the music as it happens. You need to hear how the individual voices are moving from chord to chord to internalize these progressions.

Get ready because tomorrow we're going to bring together everything we've learned up to this point into one tune!
